Mr Omer Aziz
Mr. Aziz trained at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School where he obtained his MBBS degree in 2000. He undertook his specialist colorectal training in the North-West London Deanery and went on to complete a Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) at Imperial College London. He then undertook a high volume laparoscopic colorectal fellowship at St Mark’s Hospital (Harrow), followed by a fellowship in intestinal failure, inflammatory bowel disease surgery, inherited cancers and polyposis, recurrent cancer, restorative proctocolectomy and coloproctology. He was appointed as a locum consultant colorectal and laparoscopic surgeon at St Mark’s Hospital, before joining The Christie in Manchester.
Mr Aziz specialises in coloproctology, advanced laparoscopic techniques, colorectal cancer (primary, advanced, and recurrent disease), and peritoneal tumours including cytoreductive surgery and heated intra-peritoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). He is a JAG accredited endoscopist.

Mr Aziz has been involved in the development of evidence synthesis techniques to better guide healthcare decision-making and published over 100 peer-reviewed research papers, some of which have been used by institutions such as the UK National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) in their guidance. He has an interest in translating biomedical research into new technologies for patient benefit and have obtained research grants from the Medical Research Council, Technology Strategy Board, and National Institute for Healthcare Research to this effect. He is a reviewer for the Wellcome Trust technology transfer fund.
